? Social Work Practice al Affiliation Immigration is fundamentally the account of the hominid race from its ancestries to the extant. Migration is therefore, an integral characteristic of existence in this world. Persons migrate to survive. People move in quest of foodstuff. They migrate away from threat and death. People move towards prospects for life. Immigration is linked to the hominid spirit that seeks adventure, chases dreams, and discovers purposes to hope even during the most unfavorable situations. Such immigration affects the societies the migrants’ leave behind as well as the societies, which receive these immigrants. This immigration also affects communities alongside the course of transit. The Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement is a non-governmental organization that provides quality care and enhance the wellbeing of immigrants within a spirit of solidarity, freedom, justice and compassion. The organization serves and employs persons of all cultures. This paper therefore, will examine the social work practice of Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement Center. In the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement, there is essentially a mutual adaptation of members within the host community and newcomers. Principally, the social workers in the organization ensure respect for the distinctive worth and inherent dignity for all immigrants. The requirements of adjustment are likely to be engrossed upon newcomers, who customarily must make noteworthy adaptations. Just as any community that obtains new comers is altered during the immigration and settlement process, the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement is changed too unwillingly or willingly. Nevertheless, society-social workers and the institution- have a dynamic, and not simply an unreceptive, role during the process: The center, via its social workers, has an optimistic responsibility to acclimatize itself to the new comers and afford them full prospect to provide the resources the new comers beget with them. This encompasses all of the social workers of the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement (ACSW, 2007). The Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement Center, via its official strategy of multiculturalism, acknowledges the legitimacy as well as significance of the varied cultures of its occupants, new, old as well as aboriginal. The intricacy of the integration and settlement processes mirrors the complexity of people lives as well as of community. Experiences vary from person to person as well as from grouping to grouping (ACSW, 2007). The nature as well as the reaction of the receiving society also has substantial impact on the immigration. Integration, therefore, is a process that may last countless years, if not for generations. Communities and individuals maybe "integrated" within some facets of life and not in other aspects. Issues can appear long after the arrival, for instance, at moments of substantial crisis or change. In such a situation, the social workers aid the migrants in quest for justice. Social workers have a duty to protect the migrants from harm, to fight for equitable resources’ distribution, to fight against prejudice and promote social development in the welfare of everyone (CSS, 2012). While people usually refer to integration and settlement as "processes", as well as recognize their long-term, continuing nature, they may also be viewed as objectives. Social workers ensure service to all by putting others people’s before self-regard, uphold social justice, promote individual growth, and lead to fairness in conflict resolutions. This perspective dwells on what could, as well as will be realized. In the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement Center, those who came previously have been capable of becoming full participants within a strengthened community. The pattern is continuously being reiterated and renewed. The social workers allow individual newcomers to pick her or his level of involvement in every aspect of life, simply as those born in Canada decide how as well as where to partake(ACSW, 2007). Social workers in the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement ensure this through the code of integrity within the professional practice. Social workers pursue impartiality within their professional practice, as well as desist from enacting their personal ideals, opinions and preferences on immigrants. The host community has a duty to make sure that newcomers are able to take part, as they desire, free of obstacles (CSS, 2012). The theories that guide social workers in their work with clients in the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement include the theory of personality, learning; social organization and social change; social stratification. Others include; the theory of individual and group behavior; the theory of deviance, crime and correction; the theory of economic growth and development; and the theory of group dynamics. Additionally, social workers use the Ecosystem perspective to determine the relationship between people and his or her environment. This helps the social workers to comprehend a person’s functioning: People exist in families, while families exist in societies and neighborhoods (Borisenko & Sauve, 2010). People, families, as well as neighborhoods exist within a political, economic, as well as cultural environment. It is the environment, which influences the actions, convictions, and choices of a person. For instance, a middle-aged new immigrant mother in the center had a problem with her girls associating with other girls and did not permit them to go out since she believed the other girls would mislead her girls. The social worker in charge had to intervene and explain the need to permit the children to relate with other children to avoid social segregation (ACSW, 2007). The Strengths perspective is based on the supposition that each person, family, faction and society has strengths moreover centering on these strengths results in growth as well as overcoming complications (Netting & Kettner, 2007). Under this model, the migrants are allowed by social workers to identify which helping strategies are ineffective or effective. For instance, in a situation involving whether a young woman migrant with a young kid was fit to go to school or search for a job, was left entirely to the immigrant to decide what she thought was best for to take up (ACSW, 2007). The cultural competence perspective is the perceptive and support for cultural distinctions, considering the values, beliefs, activities, as well as customs of unique populations factions. Numerous cultures have suggested methods concerning heath as well as the human physique, and these elements influence a person’s acceptance and response to health services (Netting & Kettner, 2007). For instance, a sick migrant refused to have a doctor treat him in one of the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement’s center. One of the social worker in charge of the center had to enquire from those close to him in order to understand the reasons behind the migrant’s refusal to have a doctor a treat him. It turned out the immigrant migrated from an indigenous community that believed in traditional ways of curing diseases. The PSSM (Personal Social Services Model) of social advancement practice strives to distribute to people all over a variety of necessary social services, which are required to either restore or enhance their ability for social functioning. Its main goals are provision of preventive and remedial services to persons, families, and factions whose ideal communal functioning is temporarily compromised or interrupted (ACSW, 2007), and to distribute social security to population factions, which are endangered by abuse or degradation. The above model and perspectives are in relation to a Family-Centered model that is essential to the ethics of finest practice with individuals with disabilities and coherent with the acknowledged society’s norms and values. For instance, a situation that came up in the center involved a disabled immigrant who could not associate with other people in the settlement because his family forbade him. These led to the intervention of a social worker to try to convince the family to let permit the individual to interrelate with other persons as he had a right to be a part of the community (ACSW, 2007). Social workers Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement help people, families, couples groups and societies develop the abilities in addition to resources they require to boost social functioning and afford counseling, remedy and transfer to other supportive social amenities. Social workers utilize various techniques and methods in working with clients they include observation and intervention. Observational skills enable one to be aware of what to pay attention to (ACSW, 2007). The skill of intervention is a complete problem solving structure. Social workers use standardized questionnaires, interviews, surveys and referrals. Interviews may be with couples, parents, children or caregiver to offer a prospect to collect in-depth data, construe or reframe it, as well as synthesize it so that he or she can explain a person’s development, learning, behavior, and functioning. This procedure provides the commencement stage for constructing a basis for the revelatory session though inclusion of other concerned person’s observations and comments. In case planning the social worker would interrelate with other social workforces to debate difficult cases, synchronize clients' care approaches and seek guidance about counseling tactics and resources, therefore the social worker must be attentive, observant and diligent (Refuge, 2008). Conclusively, the social workers in the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement habitually addresses a communities’ nonstandard conducts and tries to assimilate those categorized as “deviant” by community into healthy, exultant lifestyles. The paternalistic correlation undertakes two facts, a power discrepancy and the need of intercession to avoid harm. This is achieved by creating strategies and programs intended to aiding individuals to be self- determinant, innately morally, and the restrictions of systemic intercession. However, the social policies in the Catholic Social Service Immigration and Settlement needs to be reviewed and improved since social work will always call for morally founded decisions. For instance, a situation involving a deviant migrant who needed referral to a mental institution was permitted to linger around hence placing the rest of the community in danger. Therefore, there is a need to come up with effective policies and programs that will aid social workers in making informed decisions (ACSW, 2007). References ACSW (2007).
